Growing and letting grow

Updated: Dec 4, 2022

This post is kind of the synopsis of the book from Abraham Maslow "Towards a Psychology of being". This is the first part where I focused on growth. Those are my reading notes and the thoughts the book triggered. Enjoy :)

PS: All the quotes are directly from the book :)

Another great article and something I’m currently experiencing myself at work, I want to grow, I want to explore new ideas and ways of thinking (the child in me), but the adult mind takes over and the option of safety pulls me away from what I want. Interestingly though I encourage my teams and the individuals within it to be curious, to experiment which has had big results for both them and the business. What frustrates me the most is I struggle to adopt an approach I champion with my teams/ individuals, thoughts?

Thanks Paul :)

when I struggle with curiosity or find myself not experimenting enough I can usually link it to a certain level of incertitude or fear. Justified or not, it doesn’t matter. My approach is to play with the stakes. If I am bored I try something really knew and challenging, if I am uncertain, I will try little things and approach it step by step :)

Something I really liked in the book is “the behavior becomes the reward”. I believe in this. When you practice curiosity and experimentation regularly, with little things, you lower the fear of novelty and get rewards more often.
